How to Make Homemade Ointment: A Universal Recipe

Now that you know the basic bases, let's go through a simple homemade ointment recipe that you can customize according to your needs – whether for dry skin, eczema, sore muscles, or everyday natural care.

Ingredients:

  • 30 g fat base (e.g., shea butter, coconut oil, lard)

  • 10 g beeswax (for firmness)

  • 10–20 ml herbal or hemp oil extract

  • (optional) 5–10 drops essential oil (lavender, tea tree, chamomile)

  • (optional) a few drops of propolis tincture or vitamin E (natural preservative)

Method:

  1. Gently melt the fat base with beeswax in a double boiler until fully liquefied.

  2. Add the herbal oil extract – e.g., hemp, calendula, or lavender.

  3. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool to approximately 40 °C.

  4. Add essential oils and optionally propolis.

  5. Pour into clean jars, let it solidify, and store in a cool place.

Tips for Customization by Purpose:

Purpose Base Recommended Additives
Dry skin Shea butter + coconut Lavender, calendula, vitamin E
Joints / muscles Lard + beeswax Hemp extract, comfrey

How to Make Hemp Oil Extract:

  1. Crumble crystals or dried legal hemp flowers (up to 1% THC).

  2. Place in a sterilized jar and cover with a carrier oil (e.g., olive or hemp oil).

  3. Macerate for 2–3 weeks in a dark place, shaking daily.

  4. Strain through a fine cloth. Store in a cool place.

This extract can be used directly in ointments – it contains CBD, CBG, terpenes, and other active compounds.
